Going down the memory lane, the 10 photos below, from June 25, 2017 are a reminder to all of us about the power of collaboration. At the time, Save Indian Farmers was working with Deendayal Bahuuddeshiya Prasarak Mandal in Yavatmal district of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra India. The project was primarily focused on organic farming of over 500 farmers. Save Indian Farmers got financial support from Hidden Gems (New Jersey based NGO that performs live shows to raise funds for charities) and Asia Initiatives. After discussion with Asia Initiatives, Health camp details were discussed and Dr. Manjusha Ghumare from Pune, India stepped in to conduct this health camp in a way that actually helps rural women.
Though the idea was to only do this health camp for farmers participating in organic farming project, soon everyone involved realized that many women from these villages have not had any health checkup in their entire life. Dr. Ghumare reached a day before the health camp and Deendayal’s Mr Vijay Kadre and his team enrolled local health authorities to help out. The health camp was conducted for over 600 women from around 40+ villages and Dr. Ghumare asked a volunteer to follow up on the health and hygiene of some 100+ specially identified women in critical need. Special tests, screening as well as bone density tests were conducted. Though this project lasted over 2 years and became self sustainable, such a health camp has not been conducted since. Saying thank you will be too easy but it is important to acknowledge good work done by numerous folks from not just Save Indian Farmers and our donors but we also want to acknowledge representatives from hidden gems, Asia Initiatives, Deendayal Sanstha, Dr. Ghumare and other volunteers.
