My name is Satna Devi and I am 40 yrs old. My village Niyaw in block Shohratgarh is very socially and economically backward, where most people migrate to other towns or cities for the livelihood of their family. There are a total of six members in my family. My husband Mahaveer Yadav used to go out to Mumbai to earn, but at present, his health is poor due to which he stays in the village and works as a labor and meets the needs of the family. My husband had to face a lot of trouble because of him not being well and being unable to get his medicine. So, three sons of mine go out to other cities such as Mumbai to earn, where they work hard as migrant labor. Due to Covid-19 and lockdown, my sons could not find work and the money they had was spent on food, after which they had to return home.
There was no work at home as well. They have a job card but no work was available. We had 2 units of ration available from the government ration shop which helped us manage the household needs. In the meantime, I got a chance to join the Shohratgarh Environmental Society and Save Indian Farmer’s “Farmer Producer Organization (FPO)”. I participated in the activities organized under the program and got information on a lot of social topics. Through the meetings, I gained information by discussing the context of a pandemic like COVID-19 where I was informed about keeping physical distance, using masks, washing hands with soap, etc. I was provided with dry ration from the Farmer Producer Company, that helped with the food for the family for at least 15 days. This gave me great relief. Recently, MNREGA work has also begun in my village and my sons and I have started working. We are now slowly getting back to normalcy.
