Impact Stories from beneficiaries

We partnered with PEAS Trust in the Tiruchirappalli area to train farmers on farming techniques like vermicomposting, Panchagavya, usage of herbal pesticides and garlic extracts that helped avoiding the falling of flowers and stimulated the growth of the plants. The farmers were guided on marketing and introduced to experts from the Dept. of Horticulture and other experts to work with them and maximize their income.

D Vasugi

My name is Vasugi, I live in the village of Siruvayalur in the Tiruchirappalli district, Tamil Nadu. We raise crops using the well water. Before meeting the SIF team, we raised crops like sorghum, pearl millets and onions using chemical inputs. We received a series of training, orientations and demonstration on production of organic farm inputs like Panchagavya, herbal pesticides, vermicompost and garlic extract that help avoiding the falling of flowers and stimulate the growth of the plants. SIF and PEAS TRUST provided us with trays to raise nurseries, raw materials and containers to produce farm inputs. They distributed seeds of brinjal, lady’s finger, chili and tomatoes.

Along with other farmers, I visited the Agriculture Institute at Kumulur and was exposed to model cultivation and crops which was very beneficial to me. As a result of the training and support, we fetched high yield from our crops:

  • Tomatoes: 50 kilos every 3 days that sold for Rs.600.
  • Chili: 10 kgs every 10 days that sold at Rs.700.
  • Lady’s finger: 15 kgs every other day that sold at Rs.450.

We received regular guidance and support from the team members of PEAS Trust and from the trainers to cultivate our crops successfully.
I thank Save Indian Farmers, USA and PEAS TRUST, India for their support.

Pugalenthi

My name is Pugalenthi, a farmer who lives in the village of Peruvalapoor, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. For water needs, I depend upon the well in our fields. I feel very fortunate to be a part of the Save Indian Farmers’ initiative with PEAS Trust. I received training, orientation, field support and exposure to the organic farming techniques besides seeds of 4 vegetables, trays to put up nurseries, raw materials, containers, bio fertilizers to raise our crops.   Under the project I was guided on marketing my produce and introduced to the officials in Department of Horticulture, experts and other Government officials and can work with them to improve my cultivation techniques and maximize my income.

The training has helped me and my fellow farmers to increase our yields. I started to follow the inputs and was able to produce vermicompost on my own. I raised brinjal, lady’s finger, chilies and the tomatoes using the seeds and training. As a result, I am able to earn Rs.2000-2200 per week from my chilies cultivation. Thank you Save Indian Farmers, USA and PEAS Trust, Lalgudi, Tamil Nadu, India for this support.
